Why Having a Choice in Schooling is So Important? image
Education is not one-size-fits-all.  Each person is incredibly unique and carries a unique learning style.  One student may be a visual learner and do well learning from pictures, graphs and other displays.  A student sitting in the same classroom may be an auditory learner and learn best while hearing directions and lectures.  Many students are kinesthetic learners and fully grasp concepts by taking part in hands-on activities. The concept being taught is the same, but the way in which each student absorbs the material is vastly different.  Because of this, having a choice in schooling is essential, whether a student and his or her family choose traditional school or an education system like a PA cyber charter school.

In and out of the news has been the controversy over standardized testing. Regions in the United States use standardized testing to assess the quality of the education systems and how each student is scoring against standards and averages. A student sits at a table with a timer on, faced with pressure, and must complete various exercises based on question and answer, essays, and oral feedback. What students bring into these exams, which many individuals argue do not represent a comprehensive portfolio of a child’s education and potential, comes from what was learned in the classroom.

In the classroom, a teacher that differentiates lessons by incorporating various learning styles will be the most successful. Often, students do not have a choice in the actions of their teachers. Sometimes, teachers will assess students’ learning styles and use the results to form the lessons. This benefits the learning of each student, but it is also a difficult task to accomplish. Some students may be under-served in traditional school settings because of their unique needs, lifestyles, personalities, learning styles and preferences, so being able to choose different variations of schooling, like that offered at 21st Century Cyber Charter School, can only benefit the student and the education system.

21st Century employs teachers and other staff dedicated to education just like personnel in other schools. Students complete their schooling online in a more flexible manner. Education is a cornerstone of society, and it should always be of utmost importance. When a child frequently travels or has other extenuating circumstances, he or she may fall behind in school that requires attendance. However, enrolling at our Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School, it could drastically improve the student’s educational experience and better fulfill potential. It is crucial for students and their families to remember that schooling is a different experience for everyone, and all forms of schooling should be considered.
